About

Providing amazing outdoor activity experiences that respect the stunning area where we work.

We combine a truly special place with, high quality, adventurous activities to generate programmes that connect people to the natural world. The dramatic coastline, the limestone cliffs and the protected waters of Weymouth Harbour make this a perfect setting for an outdoor centre. Our position along the Jurassic Coast and with Chesil beach a short walk from the front door, positions us as a gateway to both world famous geology, and geographical features.

Portland Outdoor Centre was established in 2017 to offer a residential base for outdoor programmes on Portland. Hospitality is at our heart and we run the Dorset Adventure Café on the ground floor to cater for both our residential groups and the public. We believe that good outdoor programmes need the support of a good food and a good nights sleep.

Our Approach

Our values define your experience

  • Outdoor activities are fun and meant to be enjoyable.
  • Outdoor experiences create the environment for growth and development, particularly when they are engaging, interactive and meaningful.
  • Being active outdoors is good for mental and physical wellbeing. Being with others in this environment is even better.
  • By having positive experiences in the outdoors, people appreciate natural spaces and are more likely to value them and respect them.
  • People may need support and appropriate progression to have the best experiences outdoors.

Real experiences in real environments, for groups led by our professional team

  • Experiences that are safe, fun, supportive and where appropriate, challenging.
  • Flexibility in our sales process to design programmes to meet our clients needs.
  • Flexibility in our delivery, so that the instructors can match the needs of the group on the day with the activity and programme.
  • Great hospitality to support people to have the best outdoor experiences we can deliver.

Operate safely and professionally, balancing wellbeing, fun and learning appropriately

  • Operate sustainably so we can have the right resources in place.
  • Form trusted and ongoing relationships.
  • Minimise our impact on the environments we work in.
  • Blend in and be part of our communities.
  • Be ready to change and adapt.
